My friend sent me a link to an article written by Meghann Farnsworth, a graduate student at UC Berkeley's School of Journalism which I find very compelling on several levels. It relates the story of a young Guatemalan woman who was victim of an extremely violent crime and has been forced to live in hiding out of fear. The article raises questions on the corruption and collaboration involved in violence against women in Guatemala, while expressing a mix of compassion, helplessness and hope. The link for the article is: http://www.tomdispatch.com/index.mhtml?emx=x&pid=177784
Please note: the article contains very graphic descriptions of violence.
